Eden can be considered a planet, floating in the midst of a vast space with a single sun and moon. The Sun is intermittently blackened out by the darkness of space. This space, the Crawling Chaos of the Forlorn Void, is filled with debris and bizarre alien life that is kept away from Eden by twin discs of gas known as the Second Sky. If one were to travel past the Second Sky and look down on the planet from the Forlorn Void, one would see the supercontinent of Adel, and quite a lot of ocean every which way.
However, the planet would abruptly end, as though half-sunk in a strange shadowy mass. It is unknown what lies beneath this mass, but many theorize that crossing the ocean is a physical way of reaching Septinum, the Hells Beneath All Creation, which, like the Second Skies and the Forlorn Void, cannot be physically traveled to except by use of transportation magic.
Septinum: The Hells Beneath All Creation, Septinum is said to lie beneath the plane of Eden. It is one of the places from which Spirit energies flow freely, but nothing good forms within Septinum. It is the home of the devils, and a fiery, acrid, horrible place to inhabit. Devils, evil angels and other malicious or conniving spirits form in Septinum before “leaking up” into Eden, and appearing in Adel, either summoned by rituals or willed into existence merely by the dark yearnings of the people above.
Septinum can be considered a “deserted hell” for the most part. It is a massive waste, with few creatures in it. Certain areas of Septinum are settled by devils and malicious or tricky spirits who can withstand this underground waste. It is not entirely a no-man’s land – any well-prepared person, and of course its inhabitants, can survive the geographical perils for a time. How long that time is depends on what is stalking the travelers at the time. There are a few kingdoms and metropolises in Septinum, but the majority of this almost endless plane is merely a cavernous waste with a black and grey sky.
The Second Skies: The Ether Which Flows Around, the Second Sky is said to wrap around Eden like two disks. Spirit energies flow freely in the Second Skies, and goodly, or at least gentle or moral, spirits are formed within and appear in Eden, either by summoning, or by the good intentions and thoughts of the people in Eden. Good angels and such creatures come into being here, and it is said that good Dragons inhabit the area as well, holding ancient wisdom. The Second Skies block the Forlorn Void, but it can be bypassed with transportation magics.
Unlike Septinum, there is truly no large community in the Second Skies. Those who travel to it will find a world with hard clouds, floating islets of rock, wood and trees, and small family homes of Spirits or even eccentric mages or enlightened priests who decided to settle there. It is not a utopia by any means – any Spirit with flight can access it, and this includes some dangerous creatures. Even goodly beasts can be provoked to anger by intruders, thus leading to dangerous confrontations.
The Forlorn Void: The Darkness Above The Sky, the Crawling Chaos, which holds the Thousand Stars. Staring at the sky on a cloudless night you can see the Forlorn Void, which holds moon, sun and stars aloft in a sea of darkness that tries to encroach upon Eden, but is kept away by the Twin Skies. Mad monsters and the aberrant cities of the Dromidae Empire hover within the roiling blackness of the Void. Some spirit energies form here, dark and depraved energies that instead of creating something new, despoil things already existing.
A bit of the influence of Forlorn Void leaks into Eden every so often, either naturally or sped up by the devices of aberration masters like Aboleths and Mind Flayers already earthbound, or by insane people performing dark rituals. When this happens, Aberrations appear on Adel. Rituals to produce aberrations are difficult, because there are few already live aberrations that can be actively summoned out of the Void – often the rituals involve the spilling of the void’s energies unto an existing creature.
